Synopsis of Dunamis

Dunamis follows the story of Dominion Ministries, a popular church that faces wrongful accusations of occultism and money laundering by the Special Crimes Unit (SCU). Bishop Duncan Fraser turns to prominent lawyer Ezekiel Mabhena for help, whose son, Jason, is gifted with exceptional spiritual abilities.

The head of the SCU, Detective Benard Takawira, is a corrupt and violent detective with ties to the criminal underworld. He is determined to dismantle Dominion and all Pentecostal churches that practice unconventional faith healing methods, driven by a personal vendetta linked to his mother’s battle with cancer.

Amidst this turmoil, Jason’s guidance counselor, Lisa Matema, believes in his potential and connects him with top international universities. However, she is at odds with her daughter, Olivia, who is committed to pursuing a calling in church ministry. As the story unfolds, a deep connection develops between Ezekiel and Lisa, culminating in a powerful revelation when Detective Takawira’s true intentions are exposed.

The film explores themes of family values, spiritual awareness, redemption, and the power of faith, culminating in an explosive conclusion that demands a genuine miracle from the Spirit of God.

A Film with Global Ambitions

Marc Mandisoul, who chairs the Zimbabwe Oscars Committee and a proud member of the Academy, intends to submit Dunamis for consideration in multiple categories at the next Oscars. This includes eligible categories like Acting, Directing, and Cinematography, alongside other filmmaking elements. This ambitious move not only elevates the film but also positions Zimbabwean cinema on the global stage.
