In a glowing deal that will leave an indelible smile on the face of the local film industry, prominent South Africa-based makeup artist, Evelyn Gambe, has inked a sponsorship deal with the inaugural edition of the Zimbabwe Film and Television Awards (ZAFTAs) due for the 2nd of December in Harare.

Through her film training hub, Set Skills, Gambe will sponsor a category in the ZAFTAs: Best Make-up and Hair Styling. The gesture will see the winner of this category walk away with a scholarship to study at Set Skills Film and Television Training Hub in South Africa under the tutelage of the makeup and prosthetics goddess. The scholarship covers the full tuition.

“I am committed to providing the necessary training and guidance to the upcoming creatives in Makeup, Hair and Prosthetic departments. It is my utmost priority to impart a legacy and empower the next generation of international film and television make-up artistes from Zimbabwe,” said Gambe in a statement.

A Zimbabwean national, Gambe has worked on different film projects at home before relocating to South Africa where she has earned a name for herself in the competitive South African film and television industry. Her portfolio includes work on a number of prominent productions across the continent like Disney’s “Queen of Katwe”, Netflix’s ” Blood and Water” and more recently, the multi-nation collabo; “Africanda”.

The Makeup and Hair category, an important department on any film set, has been absent in the country’s only awards event which recognizes film and television achievement: the NAMAs. It is expected that the ZAFTAs, by being a pro-film and television project, will be a game changer in an industry teeming with talent yet so little recognition.
